I absolutely love the beautiful mule deer (mulies). They are gentle, curious and magnificent, in every sense of the word. It has been the such a joy to have them walk through our yard along their travels – and to stop for a nap and a drink at our watering station. After a couple of years now, I am have come to know several individuals (all bucks) and they have gotten to know me too! Even after all this time, the does are too shy to stay around long if I am outside. I have names for the three brave bucks I know well. They are Angelo, the handsome elder and top buck (he gets all the girls!), Freckles, the adorable, curious and very tame upstart and “Buttercup” the mighty and handsome battle-weary warrior in the number two spot. I see and talk with these three almost every day. Then there is also “Snaggle Horn” an older buck with deformed (atypical) antlers, “Young Buck”, the shy little spike horn and “Baby Buck” who is well, still a baby!!!
I felt that Angelo needed an artwork first as he is “top buck” and he is the most gentle and beautiful soul. Like most deer, one of his favorite times to come in the yard is late day. At dusk when he is looking over the landscape as the sun goes down, with the beautiful skies and setting sun, it is the most incredible sight. To me, he is the most majestic when he is in full velvet, so it was very easy to come up with a name for this painting, “Velvet Majesty”. This is hanging in Rowe Gallery now. Please let me or Rowe Gallery know if you have any questions at all or would like to add a little “majesty” to your home!!! UPDATE: “Walk Softly” is now living in his new home, but tow new mule deer paintings are in the works and “I Have a Secret” is still available!
