It has been an amazing experience to watch bronze wildlife sculptor Ken Rowe, (owner of Rowe Fine Art Gallery along with his wife Monica), sculpt “Simba” the beautiful mountain lion. Although I know every step involved in the process of creating a bronze sculpture, to see it in person creates an entirely new understanding and appreciation.
The process begins with Ken’s inspiration as he spent time with “Simba”, observing his behavior, his movements and his unique character and spirit. Ken then creates many “field sketches” which are actually mini sculptures until he settles on the pose and setting that will be the final representation of this magnificent animal. Once the sculpture is complete and entirely new team of artisans from the mold-maker to the team at the foundry take over to bring Ken’s vision to life – and each works to create the final sculpture honoring Simba forever in bronze!
I was so inspired by this process and Ken’s vision and Simba – I wanted to honor both Simba and Ken’s vision in a bold and brilliant oil painting! In addition, I wanted to give back to two important organizations who care for injured wildlife here in Arizona – including mountain lions. Once the painting sold, I will donate $250 each to Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center in Scottsdale and Runnin’ W Wildlife Center in Cornville. I just participated in the Gallery’s “Wild About Art” facebook livestream – and two wonderful collector’s of art – and lovers of all things wild purchased the painting. Thank you so very much Ron and Christine for you great generosity!!! I will likely do more mountain lion paintings in the future and I do commission as well.
