“Follow Me” Coyote
Oil on canvas

I just brought this bright and beautiful coyote to Rowe Gallery just in time for the March First Friday show at Tlaquepaque in Sedona, AZ! Please ceom down to say hello and see him in person!

“Follow Me” is an homage to memory and movement, resilience and hope – a reminder that while we may look back, it’s the color and light ahead (and within) that keeps us moving forward.

I hope this painting will capture this iconic coyote behavior: the unmistakable look over the shoulder – part instinct, part curiosity, part caution – seen again and again as coyotes move across the open land.

The coyote’s colors radiate warmth and hope, even as its gaze drifts back. This is the “Coyote Way”: watch out for the pack, protect against unseen dangers, and always be aware of who might be following. For us humans, the gesture is deeply familiar. Is it nostalgia, reflection, or a gentle melancholy that draws us to look back at the trail we’ve walked? As we move through life, the impulse to linger in memories often grows stronger, especially in seasons of change or uncertainty.

Yet, even as the past tugs at us, a luminous color palette blazes with optimism. The path behind this coyote is alive with possibility, and the bright washes of color suggest that every backward glance holds a promise—not just of what’s been lost, but of the beauty still to come.
